Selection

How a trial works

  1. The trial is announced

    It goes on the notice board with the age group, the ground, the date and a reporting time. Usually a fortnight ahead.

  2. You register as a player

    Do this before the trial, not on the day. It is what confirms your age and district, and you only ever do it once.

  3. You report on the day

    Bring your registration reference and your original age documents. Come in your own kit at the reporting time. We supply the balls and the officials.

  4. You are assessed

    Batting, bowling and fielding, plus middle practice if the schedule allows. The whole selection committee watches, not a single selector.

  5. The squad is published

    Selected players go up on the notice board and get a call. If you miss out, you are told what the committee wants to see from you next time.

Step one

Player registration

Open to any cricketer living in or playing for a district of Uttar Pradesh. There is no deadline, but you cannot be selected until it is done.

Registration takes about four minutes and costs nothing. You will need a date of birth you are sure about, a mobile number that gets answered, and — if the player is under 18 — a parent or guardian's name and number.

You do not upload any documents. Originals are checked in person at the trial, which is both quicker for you and safer for us.

What you get back

A registration reference, straight away on screen. Write it down. You will be asked for it at every trial and on every team entry, and it is how the office finds you in the system.

For organisations

District Association affiliation

Affiliation is how a District Association enters CAUP competitions and nominates players for trials.

Who can apply

Any District Association operating in Uttar Pradesh with a settled ground or regular practice venue, a named point of contact, and players it can field consistently through a season.

What to send

  • Name of the District Association, year established, and the district it operates in.
  • Registration or society certificate, if the association is registered.
  • Ground or practice venue details, including the arrangement under which it is used.
  • Name, role, mobile number and email of the person responsible for correspondence.
  • Approximate number of players by age group, and the competitions you intend to enter.

Send it to office@caup.in with the subject line “Affiliation — <district association> — <district>”. Applications are placed before the committee, and the office will tell you the outcome in writing.

Questions

Before you write to us

Do I need a recommendation to attend a trial?

No. If you are registered and eligible for the age group, you can attend. A District Association can nominate you, but it is not required and it counts for nothing with the selectors.

Is there a fee to register as a player?

Registering on this site is free. Where a fee does apply — team entry, affiliation — it is printed in the season circular and confirmed by the office before you part with anything. Never hand money to an individual. Payments go to the association.

How is my age group decided?

By the date of birth on the documents checked at your trial, against the cut-off date in that season's regulations. This is why it matters: an age that cannot be verified can wipe out a season's cricket.

I live outside Uttar Pradesh. Can I register?

Registration is for cricketers living in, or playing for a district of, Uttar Pradesh. If your case is unusual, write to the office before you spend money travelling to a trial.

What should I bring on the day?

Your registration reference, original age and identity documents, your own kit, whites or coloured clothing as the notice specifies, and more water than you think you need. We bring the balls and the officials.

When are the next trials?

They go on the notice board as soon as they are fixed, normally a fortnight ahead. Nothing is ever announced by phone before it appears there.
